Exclusions & Admission Denials Criteria

Please read our exclusionary criteria and denial of admission policies. Learn about the conditions and situations that may impact eligibility for treatment at Brave Health, ensuring appropriate placement to meet clinical needs.

Exclusionary Criteria:

  1. Patient is under 13 years of age.
  2. Patient is currently receiving treatment outside of Brave for the same or similar services (e.g., individual therapy outside Brave while seeking group therapy at Brave).
  3. Patient is in need of inpatient detoxification or inpatient hospitalization.
  4. Patient with psychotic disorder who is not currently stable or who is actively maintained on a Long Acting Injectable Medication.
  5. Patient has a primary diagnosis of severe emotional disturbances or of such limited intellectual functioning level that treatment would be difficult, negatively impacting other patients, or not be beneficial to the patient.
  6. Patient has Active Eating Disorder (or symptoms within the last 3 months): Anorexia or Bulimia (due to the need for thorough physical examination and in-person weigh-ins).
  7. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) due to the need for more intensive services.

Denial of Admission:

It is the policy of Brave Health to document clinical justification for admissions and denials of admissions. In cases of denial of admission, documentation will include reasons why the patient was denied, reflecting Brave Health’s assistance with the patient in finding appropriate placement to meet their clinical needs.

  1. Documentation of clinical staff involved in the decision to deny admission will also be recorded in the patient's record.
  2. Brave Health’s virtual-only model may not be appropriate or desirable for all patients.
